If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Confess your sin!
“If we say” sounds here. John knows that the human heart to the message of “sin” and “cleaning” defends. This was particularly evident in the Gnostic circles, but may become visible in the communities themselves.
The apostolic word of the “sin” is truly challenging and meets the people in his inner pride. At the same time the man is by nature blind to himself and his true condition, so he defends himself against just this center of the message. John has apparently learned that this defense is up to the Declaration boosts: “sin, we have not.” It had already been at Corinth: marrying the stepmother, the dispute with the brother before pagan judges, going to the temple prostitute – for the “pneumatics”, the mental support, this was not a “sin”. It took place in the world of external, material life and not touched the spiritual existence. God will never let you fall, if you confess your sins in front of him, on the contrary, he is waiting and welcomes you with open heart.
