We note it well: John says this of the community! He does not mean: here in the church are the children of God and in the outside world are the children of the devil. Oh yes, especially in the community, we should be able to tell the unvarnished truth, the truth is in the kingdom of God but to holiness and healing. Too often we have to pack things in batting at considering, we trivialize things that the other run to his doom, so we do not hurt him.

John was there when Jesus told the religious, law-abiding Jews with all their religious and moral achievements: “You have your father the devil, and by lusts of your father ye will do.” (Jo 8,44a). That’s why he worries that there may be in the Christian communities “children of the devil”. How can you recognize and distinguish them? They live with the community, listen to her the word, sing the same songs, a good command of the Christian and biblical language. Jesus thinks even to people who can boast: “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? Have we not in thy name cast out demons? Have we not in thy name done many deeds done? ”
